SNAFU Society of Unexpected Spectacles
Bold. Playful. Unconventional.
SNAFU Society of Unexpected Spectacles is a Canadian physical theatre and puppet company based in Victoria, BC. Led by artists Ingrid Hansen and Kathleen Greenfield, SNAFU has created over forty original performances since 2006 — from large-scale outdoor productions to intimate puppet shows that tour across Canada and abroad.
Their previous website, built on Weebly, no longer reflected the company’s creative range or professional scope. After years of touring and growth, SNAFU needed a dynamic new Squarespace website that could showcase current and past shows, highlight upcoming tours, and engage audiences through ticketing and donations — all while maintaining a bold, distinctive identity.
The redesign focused on creating a vibrant, easy-to-navigate platform that celebrates SNAFU’s ongoing work while serving as a living archive of past and in-progress shows.
The Approach
This project involved a complete redesign from Weebly to Squarespace, focusing on clarity, storytelling, and visual impact while maintaining SNAFU’s trademark sense of humor and play.
Content & Structure
I restructured the site to feature distinct sections for current shows, touring productions, and past creations — allowing visitors, presenters, and collaborators to easily navigate SNAFU’s extensive body of work. The About and Donate pages were reimagined to balance storytelling and professionalism, emphasizing the company’s nonprofit status and community involvement.Visual & Interactive Design
To reflect SNAFU’s theatrical identity, I implemented custom section dividers, image frames, and playful hover animations inspired by their performances. The site incorporates custom toggles for long artist bios, interactive tabs for easy navigation through dense content, and video embeds with animated play buttons and custom borders for consistency and impact.Technical & Functional Enhancements
The new website includes a ticketing widget, show filters for dynamic browsing, and responsive custom layouts that adapt seamlessly across devices. Every design element was refined through advanced CSS to balance accessibility with aesthetic detail.
