Personal project – Portfolio Website Design

— Portfolio Website Design

Blake is a portrait photographer based in California. This personal project marks a significant milestone in his life — a yearlong journey around the world, capturing the people who’ve had a lasting impact on him.

To mark his 50th birthday, Blake embarked on a deeply personal journey — a yearlong global portrait series honoring the people who have shaped his life. The result would be an intimate photographic exhibition celebrating connection, memory, and gratitude.

As a fellow photographer, it was a true privilege to bring this vision online through a website that feels as intentional, emotional, and alive as the portraits themselves.

While the final site appears simple at first glance, the technical execution was meticulously crafted. We began with the essentials: a minimal yet impactful digital identity designed to frame the imagery without distraction. The homepage opens with a short, immersive video presentation — fully customized to support the narrative and elevate the visitor’s experience.

One of the key components of the project was developing a fully custom gallery — built entirely outside Squarespace’s native capabilities. The challenge was to follow a precise design pattern to create rhythm and flow, while ensuring the layout remained fully responsive and easy to update. The custom gallery accommodates images of varying sizes and ratios, preserving visual coherence while allowing Blake to expand the collection over time within the same structural rhythm.

A secondary “About & Contact” page offers space to reflect on the heart of the project and invites personal connection.

This site is more than a portfolio. It’s a quiet but powerful tribute — a living space for gratitude, storytelling, and the enduring beauty of human relationships.

“Working with Audrey to build my photography website was like watching a vision come to life—clean, purposeful, and full of heart. She didn’t just create a site; she built a story around the images, letting each photo speak for itself. I’ve always believed in using business as a force for good, and this process reminded me that design can do the same—when it’s done with soul.”
