Pippa Scott, Memoir Author
Bold. Expressive. memorable.
Pippa Scott is a writer, singer, and performer whose memoir Paper Girls Burn explores identity, survival, and emotional resilience. As she prepared for the book’s release, she needed a digital platform that could introduce the memoir while reflecting its striking visual world.
The goal was to create a website that would present the book clearly, highlight early praise, encourage pre-orders, and establish a strong visual identity aligned with its tone and artwork.
The challenge
Paper Girls Burn has a distinctive artistic direction. The visuals surrounding the memoir combine collage, layered textures, and bold colour contrasts that convey both vulnerability and intensity.
Translating that aesthetic into a website required a careful balance. The design needed to preserve the artistic energy of the book while ensuring the reading experience remained clear, structured, and accessible.
At the same time, the site had to introduce the memoir to a new audience, offering an immediate sense of the story, its themes, and the author behind it.
The Approach
I approached the project by translating the visual and emotional language of the memoir into a cohesive digital experience.
Rather than building a conventional author website, I created a site that draws from the book’s artwork and atmosphere, allowing the digital presence to feel deeply connected to the memoir while remaining clear, intuitive, and easy to navigate.
Visual Identity
The digital brand direction draws directly from the world of Paper Girls Burn. The colour palette, textures, and typographic choices echo the visual language of the book while maintaining clarity and readability across the site.
This created a cohesive identity, where the website feels like a natural extension of the memoir rather than a separate promotional piece.
Design & Layout
The website was designed to guide visitors through the world of the memoir, introducing the book, its early reception, and the author herself.
Layered imagery and collage-inspired elements bring visual character, while generous spacing and clear typography create balance and ease. The result is expressive and memorable, without compromising readability.
Content Architecture
The site structure was designed to support both readers and media audiences.
The homepage introduces the memoir and features early reviews, while dedicated pages provide further context on the book, the author, and media materials. This allows visitors to quickly understand the project while also exploring it in greater depth.
Features & Highlights
Expressive Design — Visual elements inspired by the book’s artwork and atmosphere
Digital Brand Essentials — Typography and colour palette aligned with the memoir’s identity
Review Integration — Early praise highlighted throughout the site, with flexibility for future additions
Custom Motion Details — Subtle animations, including flames within the title and a sliding paper girl effect, designed to echo the themes of the book
Social Media Assets — Animated Instagram reels created to support the memoir’s promotion
The Result
The final website introduces Paper Girls Burn with clarity, atmosphere, and visual impact.
It offers a distinctive digital presence that supports the memoir’s launch while positioning Pippa Scott as both a writer and artist. The design balances expressive visuals with thoughtful structure, allowing the story itself to remain central.
More than a promotional website, it serves as a digital gateway into the world of the memoir, inviting readers to discover the book and the voice behind it.
The result is an expressive author website that brings together storytelling, design, and motion to support the launch of Paper Girls Burn and create a memorable introduction to Pippa’s work.
